Blackrock A.C. Belfast Marathon and National Marathon Championships – Weekly Round-Up

The Marathon season is in full swing and some Blackrock A.C. members travelled to Belfast this weekend to take part in the Belfast Marathon and National Marathon Championships.

Belfast Marathon and National Marathon Championships

The 2021 Belfast marathon, incorporating the National Championship, took place on October 3rd, 2021. Among the 5000+ participants were 12 members of Blackrock A.C. and all performed really well on the hilly course with some amazing times.  Congratulations to everyone. We await the national marathon results.

Parkrun

Well done to Kevin O’Hagan who completed his 100 parkrun milestone today in Cabinteely with almost 20 taking part from the club and a win by Ted. Please ensure you include Blackrock A.C. on your profile if you are a member. 

Galway Bay Marathon 2021

Congratulations to Gerry for finishing the Galway Bay Marathon in 3.45 on Saturday in perfectly sunny conditions.


Fit4life Virtual Event – 10km Challenge

From now until the end of the October, we are going to continue the series and have a 10km virtual challenge. Just log a 10km each week for any of your runs or even enter an average over a longer run.  This is a good opportunity to do a weekly tempo run with a recommended pace of half marathon pace or a 10km race time +5 minutes. Blackrock A.C. Tip of the week

Running easy days after hard training days (tempo run, long run) can help prolong your running career. Also, the last run before and the first run after a long run or a race should be easy. Easy runs should be at talking pace and not necessarily be slow runs.  Tempo runs which are faster but not flat out can really help improve your running.


Training Reminder

Training continues as normal this week.  Anyone who had not completed the Covid-19 survey can do so at the following link (Covid19 form link). If anyone is not feeling well in any way or injured you should not come to training. For those currently on trial, if you want to join the club, you can do so below:
