Another month has passed and Blackrock A.C. members trained, raced and competed. We have summarised all highlights from February for you.

Dublin Championships

Well done to all Blackrock A.C. Junior and Juvenile members who took part in days 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Dublin Championships in February. 15 medals were bagged on days 1 and 2 with many more following in days 3 and 4. We had 132 members take part in the relay events also. A truly fantastic event with special thanks to  Dublin Athletics and all our coaching team to help make it happen.

Donadea 50K

There were some fine racing performances by our 6 intrepid Blackrock AC members who did the National 50k Championship on Saturday 12th February in Donadea Forest Park in Kildare. The event consists of running 10 laps around the scenic Donadea Forest Park on a trail route. Despite heavy rain being predicted, the day was fairly good for running. 
Despite the heavy rain conditions at times and one 20-minute trip to an ambulance for James, all six finished. A special thanks to the ladies of Donadea Running Club who came to James’ aid when he slipped coming to the last corner of lap 5. Special thanks also to their member Mick who helped when James’ leg completely seized and he got him back up and running again. Also to St John’s Ambulance for cleaning him up and putting on a bandage that would last another 25km of running.
Congratulation to everyone who completed the 50km, a wonderful achievement. A big shout out to everyone who came along to support the runners with food, drinks and cheers including Bryan, Dermot, Georgina, Paul, Róisín and Sarah.

Seville Marathon

Massive congratulations to everyone who ran so well at the Seville Marathon on 20th February, five Blackrock A.C. members there ran times of 2:41 or quicker which, while very specific, maybe a record! We only wish you lads could have brought some of the weather home with you! Well done all!!

Blackrock A.C. Quiz Night 

The Blackrock A.C. annual table quiz is on this Friday 4th March. Tables are now sold out and a waitlist is in place but we would love it if we could have a few more prize donations.  The quiz is famous for having great spot prizes. A few people have been amazing at getting them over the years. Some of those people have moved on so we need as much support as we can get now. Prizes typically have a value of €50-€200, are often vouchers for hotels or restaurants. Whoever donates will get due recognition so it is always good publicity for local businesses. Ukrainian Aid

As a club, Blackrock A.C. has been shocked and saddened by recent developments in Ukraine. Marta and Owen Kelly organised a collection of supplies to be sent to Ukraine to help aid its people. We would like to thank Marta and Owen for organising with a mention that there may be another collection in the coming week.
