Blackrock A.C. members spent the Halloween weekend running scarily good times at Parkruns and (trick) and treating themselves to some fantastic running achievements.
Congratulations Ted and Parkrun Highlights!
Over the past two years or so, there were a number of cancellations when Ted Burke was due to take on the role of Cabinteely Parkrun Race Director. Conspiracy theorists have long come to the conclusion that a Parkrun would never happen with him at the helm. The weather was the most likely threat for cancellation in the lead-up to Saturday. Cabinteely Parkrun mega boss Olwyn Dunne even had the Child of Prague to hand – just in case! However, after strong perseverance from Ted, he finally pulled it off on Saturday and did a great job organising volunteers to facilitate 139 participants on what appeared to be a very spooky-looking fun-filled morning!
Johnny Sheehan also volunteered for the 100th time in Cabinteely Parkrun – 101 Parkrun volunteer roles in total, well done Johnny!! Personal bests also for Jason Varley (20:51) and new Blackrock A.C. member Ita (31:16) in Cabinteely, and Ger O’Toole (20:12) in Dulwich Parkrun, London.
What an achievement
Congratulations to Grainne Grennan who was selected for Ireland as part of an international with Northern Ireland following her recent run in the Open Cross Country in Abbottstown. This will take place in Belfast in November, and we wish her the best.

Blackrock A.C. Tip of the week
Running easy days after hard training days (tempo runs, long run, race etc.) can help prolong your running career. The last run before and the first run after a long run or a race should be easy. Easy runs should be at talking pace and not necessarily be slow runs. The week after a very long run or a marathon should always be easy. In addition, unless there is a specific race on the horizon, best to take it easy during November and December to allow the body recover towards the end of the year.
