Blackrock A.C. Looking for Volunteers to Get Involved – Weekly Round-Up

Blackrock A.C. are looking for volunteers to get involved with the club and fill both Committee and Non-Committee based roles. More details can be found below.

A good number of Blackrock A.C. members exchanged the weekly Cabinteely for St Anne’s Parkrun this week, not only running some fantastic times, but also joining the Clontarf running group for their post Parkrun training.

A special mention to Ted who has achieved a new PB of 17:55 in St Anne’s.

Run the Line

Blackrock A.C. took on the Dublin Mountains last weekend, joining ‘Run the Line’ (13km and 26km), a fundraising event for Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team.

Well done to  James, Jamie, Rob, Ger, Mark, Ray, David Graham and David Martin.

…coming soon…

Moonlight Challenge

Well done to James and Roisin who completed the Moonlight Challenge in Wicklow last weekend, hiking 6:37 hours under the full moon.

The Moonlight Challenge is the main fundraising event for the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and follows a  22 kilometer route starting and finishing in Laragh village.

Committee Changes and Key Roles to be Filled

Blackrock A.C. has several roles to fill which are both Committee and Non-Committee based.

We are looking for volunteers to come forward and take the baton so that we can continue and build upon the great work that has been done to date.  A huge thank you to Emer, Nuala and Joan who have contributed immensely to the success of our club over the years.

Please see below a brief description of the three positions which are starting in 2022.  If you are interested or wish to have a chat about these roles feel free to reach out to any of the committee members or email

You can read more about the positions HERE.

Blackrock A.C. Tip of the week

For runners seeking peak performance, the ideal is to determine within a tenth of a mile, if possible, the weekly mileage at which your body self-destructs. Then you can train to the edge of disaster, staying safe, but occasionally pushing over that edge to determine whether months and years of steady training (or a new pair of shoes) have allowed you to nudge your breaking point to a new level. And to permit you to train just under that point and run faster in your next race.

Training Reminder

Training continues as normal this week and great to see good numbers at each session. Members are required to wear a high viz vest from now on at training.

Anyone who had not completed the Covid-19 survey can do so at the following link (Covid19 form link). If anyone is not feeling well in any way or injured you should not come to training. For those currently on trial, if you want to join the club and become a member you can register now. Membership prices are reduced as it is past August.
