Blackrock A.C. members were racing on a cold winter’s morning in Clontarf, Clonakilty and Lusk, bracing icy winds and having the time of their lives.
Clontarf Half Marathon and 8km
The Clontarf 8km and Half Marathon took place on Saturday, 27th November 2021. Apart from Parkruns, this was the first live race for many of our members for quite some time. Among the over 2000 participants in Clontarf were 24 members from Blackrock A.C.
Carmel and Lorna both had good runs in the 8km. New member Fergus Collis was the first club member home in the Half Marathon in a fast 1.19.40. Among the notable performances were Grainne who was first in her age group, Monica who ran a sub 2 in her first Half Marathon with excellent pacing by Gerry and Caimin and Valeria who both ran PB’s.

Blackrock A.C. Tip of the week
An important part of every runner’s training is rest. Running a short distance at a slow pace would qualify as rest. A day where you cross-trained by swimming or cycling also might qualify as rest. But sometimes active rest is not enough; you need to take a day off when you do not run or do much of anything. Although I promote consistency as critical to success, there are times when you simply have to kick back and do nothing. And I mean nothing! Take a week off. Take a couple of weeks off. Yes, you will lose some fitness, but you will more than make up for it if you return to training refreshed and ready to run hard again. Rest is often best!

Anyone who had not completed the Covid-19 survey can do so at the following link (Covid19 form link). If anyone is not feeling well in any way or injured you should not come to training. For those currently on trial, if you want to join the club and become a member you can register now. Membership prices are reduced as it is past August.
