As we post this blog, U’15 Club athlete- Mark O’Brien (& Family), is making his final preparations in Rio as Ireland’s sole representative in the opening ceremony. He will be part of a select group that will carry the Olympic torch on the final leg to signal the start of the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. It is a truly great occasion for Mark who has been battling to overcome illness in recent years. His determination and love for the sport encapsulates the true “Olympic spirit” and a recent article in the Irish Times (below) shows us that Mark is as determined as ever and it is only a matter of time before we see him back to a full recovery.
The club passes on our best wishes to Mark, Issy, Joan and Frank on what is sure to be a memorable occasion for them.
