Sarah takes 5th Schools XC title in Waterford

Comments Off on Sarah takes 5th Schools XC title in Waterford Uncategorized

Congratulations to Sarah Healy (Holy Child Killiney) who notched up her fifth consecutive Schools XC title last weekend and in doing so created another piece of history as the first female athlete to hold all four age category titles at Minor (CIT 2014), Junior (Clongowes 2015), Inter (Sligo 2016 & Mallusk 2017) and Senior (WIT 2018). The race itself was a “mudfest” but once again Sarah was in imperious form making light of the conditions with yet another dominant display. Well done to Sarah.

Lara Gilespie was also running in the Senior race and was part of the Wesley College team that finished third in the team competition. Oisin Kelly (Newpark) missed the Senior boys race as he was away on holidays.

Sarah makes history with first ever Senior track title for the club in a record run @ NIA & scoops overall Juvenile Athlete of the year at AAI Annual Star awards

Sarah Healy continues to rewrite the history books in Irish Junior athletics with another memorable performance at the All Ireland Senior Indoor championships yesterday. Fresh from her exploits two weekends ago at the AAI Indoor games (she smashed the Youth & Junior 1500m Indoor record), she once again took centre stage with a devastating performance over 3000m. Her winning time of 9 min 10 secs saw her take down the previous best Youth & Junior indoor records by 25 & 18 secs respectively and a 10 sec winning margin on Kerry O’Flaherty in second place. .

Sarah is also the first club athlete to take a National Senor title on the track and no doubt its the first of many given her precocious talent.

Her achievements are all the more incredible when you consider that she has just turned 17 years old

The race itself was a cracker with Sarah taking control at half way and never looking back covering the last 1k in 2.55!! (see AAI report here)

Later that evening, Sarah was the recipient of the prestigious overall Juvenile athlete of the year for 2017 at the AAI Juvenile Star awards ceremony in Tullamore. She also received special recognition (along with the Irish Girls relay squad) for her EYOF title in Gyor last July.

Congratulations to Sarah on a special weekend
