Good luck Maria…

Comments Off on Good luck Maria… Uncategorized

Our best wishes go to Maria Walsh who is emigrating to New Zealand on Thursday next. Maria was a staunch member of our Junior club over many years and won numerous honours at both county and national level.  She also gained selection on the Irish Junior cross country team.

We wish you every success in your new venture from all at Blackrock Athletic Club.

Blackrock Athletic Club back in action……

The long wait was over and the Indoor championships commenced at Tallaght Athletic Club on Saturday last with the middle distance and field events. The squad had some last minute casualties due to illness but we still had a strong representation. Whilst the conditions were less than ideal for middle distance running, the team performed very well and gained valuable experience for the remainder of the Indoor competitions and the full track and field season ahead. Two of our athletes (Sarah Healy & Tommy O’Brien) have qualified for the National Indoor Championships which will be held in March. The Nationals are for athletes from age groups U12- U18.

The Indoor fixtures continue this weekend with a full Relay programme (Saturday 25th February, Tallaght Athletic Club @ 1 pm)

Finally, we would like to thank Tallaght Athletic Club for their warm reception and excellent organsiation on the day.

Sarah Healy Takes Gold in the All Ireland Cross-Country

Our own Sarah Healy took Gold in the  All-Ireland Cross Country Championships this morning in The Curragh! In a highly competitive race Sarah led from the start and showed great tenacity and courage in holding off a strong late finish from her nearest rival to clinch the Gold medal. It was indeed an epic battle.

Sarah also led home the Dublin team in finishing first in the team event.

Congratulations to Sarah for all her hard work and training.

Cross country season draws to a close (November/ December 2011)

To all of those who competed in the Dublin Cross Country Leagues and Championships. Emily McAleese, Ellen Cheung, Sarah Healy, Evan Walshe, Mark O’Brien, Sean Kinsella, Michael McCarthy, Emily Cosgrove, Julia Healy, and Lorcan Martin all acquitted themselves with particularly distinction. Sarah also came first in the Dublin Championships. Well done!

. . . . to Sean Kinsella and Sarah Healy who qualified for the National Cross Country competitions. Sean was part of the Dublin team who obtained a bronze medal at the National Championships in Sligo on 27th November and Sarah’ s epic win in the Curragh is detailed on a separate news item.
