Eight titles at the Dublin Juvenile T&F Championships (updated results)

A busy last six to seven weeks culminated with the Dublin Championships taking place over the weekend at Santry and Tallaght track(s). Congratulations to Emma O’Brien (U12 Sprints & Shot), Laura Gallagher (Turbo Javelin), Kristina O’Connor (U13 Sprints), Ellen Cheung (U13 600m), Sean Kinsella (U15 Shot) and Tommy O’Brien (U17 200m & 100m Hurdles) on securing Dublin titles.

Due to a host of other sporting commitments and the end of school year term with holidays and Irish College, we were entering this year’s Championships with a much smaller squad. Nevertheless, we had some outstanding performances and It was great to see them all enjoying the competition at the two venues. A big thank you to the athletes and many supporters.

The summary is as follows:

U10’s: On Friday night, Ella Cowman and Hannah O’Brien ran in the girls U10 500m and capped off a fine few weeks with good runs in preparation for the Team competition in Tullamore. Well done girls.

U12’s: Emma O’Brien and Laura Gallagher both came through their heats with relative ease in the 60m sprints and in a great final both girls dominated the race with Emma taking another very impressive victory and the Dublin Champion title. Laura ran a great race and a deserving silver medal. Well done to both girls who will now go on to represent the Club at the All Ireland’s in Tullamore in July. Kate Cowman also competed on Friday night over 600m and earlier today in the sprints with two very good performances. Laura Gallagher notched up a victory the previous weekend in the Turbo Javelin at Santry. Well done Laura. And Emma also had some impressive outings in the Field events with a first place finish in the Shot and a second place finish in the LJ. Well done Emma on a great weekend.

U13’s: Ellen Cheung qualified through the heats on Friday night and produced another  fine run over 600m to take a well deserved Dublin title. Kristina O’Connor was equally impressive in the 80m sprints with an excellent set of races to take her title. Well done to both girls on their performances and they will now go on to represent the club at the All Ireland’s in Tullamore in July. Annalisa Clarke had a great bronze in the Javelin and Siofra Byrne also had fine run in the 80m Sprints.

U14’s: Sarah Healy made the trip back from Irish College to take a fine Silver medal in the 1500m and also goes to Tullamore in July to represent the club. Well done Sarah. Julie Ringrose was a comfortable qualifier on Friday night for the 800m final and produced a superb performance in the final today but was just run out of a top 3 finish. Well done Julie on a great run. Lina Kyne had two fine races over 800m and 1500m. In the sprints and Field events, Alanah Scanlon, Ali Dunne and Alex Duffy all took part with some solid performances.

Oisin Kelly (1500m) and Jack Moraghan (sprints) also had fine runs and were up against very strong opposition.

U15’s: Sean Kinsella was carrying an injury and limited his participation to the Shot where he won out with some fine throws. Well done Sean who will be very familiar with the Tullamore surroundings in July. Mika Ryan and Ruairi Moore also participated in the 800m, LJ, Hurdles and sprints over the weeknd and enjoyed the experience. Mark Fitzgibbon was involved in a very fast 1500m and had a fine run in fifth place and his first taste of Club competition.

Nicole Gallagher and Caitlin Kelly took part in the sprints and hurdles in the girls U15 competition.

U17’s: Tommy O’Brien had a very good (and busy !) weekend with two Dublin titles over the 100mH and 200m, a second place finish in the 300mH and a very impressive Silver medal in the 100m flat. Tommy will also head to Tullamore to represent the Club in July. Well done Tommy.
