Santry played host to the Uneven Dublin XC championships last weekend. Once again we had a large turn out and some excellent performances.
Congratulations to Matthew O’Donnell on a fine 1st place in the boys U9 age group. Reports below:
Under 9s
A super turn-out from our Under 9’s some of whom were competing in their first cross country event. The girls were up first with Caoimhe McDermott, Emilie Vioreanu, Jessica Maher , Mealla Hunt, Juliette Marry and Leah McHugh all running out hard and showing great grit and determination.
Emillie was first to cross the line for Blackrock and finished in the top 12 winning a medal. Well done Emillie and all the girls who ran. Great running from everyone.
The boys followed and again a great turn-out from the boys. Matthew O’Donnell, Oscar McClenaghan, Patrick Curran, Andrew Schwer and Conor O’Brien.
The boys all ran out very fast in what was a very quick 800m race. Matthew O’Donnell came sprinting in first place winning gold for Blackrock. Fantastic running Matthew. Matthew was followed very closely by Andrew Schwer and Conor O’Brien who both secured top 12 finishs and a medal for Blackrock. Conor and Andrew were followed closely by Oscar and Patrick.The boys were delighted to also win the Team Gold. Well done boys.
Under 11s
Great turn-out from the under 11s on a cold Sunday morning in Santry. The girls were up first and we had 6 of our under 11 girls running Rachel O’Brien, Holly O’Brien, Abbie O’Connor, Julia White, Elsa Mooney and Olivia Gaughran. All the girls ran out strong. The field was spread out but Holly and Rachel managed to keep pace with the race leaders. Holly finished strongly over the last 100 metres to take bronze, with Rachel not far behind in 10th place. Elsa, Abbie and Olivia all ran very well in what was a tough race over a longer distance of 1.5k. Well done to all the girls. Both Holly and Rachel will represent Blackrock AC in the National Finals in Dungarven in December.
The boys were up next and we had a super turn-out of boys David McMahon, Donnacha Barry, David Curran, Ben McClenaghan, Alfie O’Gorman ( running up) Killian Thornton, Charlie White, Mark Fitzgerald, Ryan Duffy, James Barry, David Quinn, Marcus Moyna (running up) Luke Coffey and Max Sheridan. The boys all ran well in what was a tough race over 1.5k. Well done boys.
In the girls U13 race we had good performances from Hannah O’Brien, Ciara Thornton, Kate O’Neill, Grace Naughton, Sophie Maher and Dara Smyth.
In the boys U13 race, the team finished with a bronze medal and we had strong individual performances from Luke Fitzgerald, Robert O’Brien, Conn Lucey, Ziyad OMAR, Luke Kirkland, Sean O’Riagain, James Neary, Tom O’Connor, Andrew Quinn and Oscar Canavan
In the Boys U17 race, Oisin Kelly was in good form finishing in 3rd place in what was a hotly contested race. He will represent Dublin at the Nationals in WIT in December. Jack Moraghan and Luke Reynolds were also in this race and showed up well over 5k.
