The Dublin Indoors programme came to a close earlier today at a very tranquil Santry Stadium. Middle Distance finals were accompanied with a record 261 Long Jump entries and a host of other Field events ensuring that the many volunteers were kept busy.
A big congratulations to Ellen Cheung on a well deserved victory in the girls U13 600m. Ellen has been in flying form since her return and will now go on to represent the club in the All Irelands @ AIT. She will be joined by Evan Walshe who was also back in the top 3 circle with a strong third place finish in the Boys U13 600m. Well done to them both. Dara Purcell also ran a fine race finishing just behind Evan in fourth place with Cianan Martin and Patrick Tucker making up the quartet of BAC athletes in this race. Laura Gallagher ran well in the U12 600m finishing in 6th place and Will Hickey (6th) and Oisin Kelly showed up strongly in the Boys U14 800m.
The Field events were been held on the Clonliffe side of the outdoor track with Doug Walshe jumping to a deserved Silver medal in the Boys U11 and Emma O’Brien tagging two Silvers in both the LJ and Shot to her existing medal haul. Emma will have a busy few weekends in Athlone. Ella Cowman, Robyn Daly, Ella Cowman, Kate Cowman, Harry Casey, Isabel O’Brien, Yuriy Cox and Maria Coffey also competed in the various Field events.
A big thank you to the Coaches and Parents who sacrificed their last two weekends to have the athletes at the various venues and well done to our squad for their gallant efforts and participation.
Also, a big thank you to Joan Colgan on the photos provided for the website over the last two weekends. The action shots make these articles all the more enjoyable. And to Paul Walshe who sacrificed a Spectator’s role and volunteered on behalf of the club to officiate in various races and field events. Thanks to you both.
Finally, we acknowledge the Dublin County Board and in particular Cecil Johnston for their work and continuous support to all Dublin clubs and the great organisation over the five Competition days.
