Blackrock A.C. keep pushing for PB’s with members completing some great runs over the weekend starting with a number of PBs in Cabinteely Parkrun on Saturday and fantastic times at long races on Sunday.

Parkrun
Ita O’Malley came in at 30:53 and Pat O’Brien in 22:53. Pat was full of praise for Blackrock A.C. member Arik who he said had paced him throughout and at times when Pat felt it was getting too much, had told Arik to go ahead. Arik refused and kept pushing Pat who was rightly delighted he kept going strong and the result which followed. A fine example of the level of support on offer within the club.

A few first-timers in Cabinteely too, one of whom was Melanie Pape who was first lady home in 23:37. A fine result in what is a challenging course, particularly for first-timers! It remains to be seen if they will come back next week though. Congratulations also to Patricia Forde who was the second lady home in Coole Parkrun Galway in an impressive time of 24:42.

IMRA Powerscourt Ridge 16k mountain run and Barcelona Marathon
James Curran took part in the IMRA Powerscourt Ridge 16k mountain run, up Maulin, then over and up to the summit of Djouce. Once there a turnabout and back to the start along the Wicklow Way. Results to follow on IMRA’s website.
A special congratulations also to Brian Lenihan, who ran an amazing time of 02:36 for the Barcelona marathon on Sunday.

Fastlane Half Marathon
Members also took part in the Fastlane Half Marathon, Clondalkin. Owen Kelly was first home for the club in 01:23:35, followed by David Graham in 01:27:32, Eva Fairmaner in 01:53:28, Breda O’Keeffe 01:54:46 and James Dowling in 01:59:48.

Blackrock A.C. Tip of the week
Even though your road race of choice has a flat course, hill training can help you as a runner. Hill training will strengthen your quadriceps muscles. Olympic champion Frank Shorter refers to hill training as interval training in disguise. It will make you a better runner.
