Blackrock A.C. March Highlights

Blackrock A.C. March Highlights

March was another great month of running activities. It really is great to see things return to normal!

Return of Blackrock A.C. Quiz

Blackrock A.C. Quiz Night returned last on 4 March and just over 100 members and friends attended. The event helped raise €4,500 for the club abd a special thanks to our main sponsors AON and Dental Medical Ireland as well as the many local businesses who donated prizes also. More on them can be found here.

Various Races and Events

Blackrock A.C. Men’s Captain Rob Asher has been training hard of late and got a new PB of 18:32 in Cabinteely Parkrun. Certainly not for the fainthearted, well done Rob.

Congratulations to Hugh Hunt who was the first male home at the Sandymount 5k in 17:56. A fine run, with many pointing out it was his warm-up for the Club 5 (registration open) later this month.

Run For Ukraine

There was amazing support this month from Blackrock A.C. in support of Ukraine’s humanitarian efforts. We would like to say a special thanks to everybody who took part in the run of some 3,029km. The total raised was €12,995 at the time with donations still open. More information can be seen here. A note also that non-perishable items are still been collected by Blackrock A.C. man Igor up until 10th of April. More details can be found here.

Blackrock A.C. Younger Athletes Performing Strong

A huge well done to #BlackrockAC 2007 girls Holly, Isabel, Natasha and Ruby who represented their school in the National Schools Cross Country event recently.

Holly was selected to represent Ireland (for the second time this season) on the Schools International Team and traveled to Wales.

National Indoors

Some amazing runs at the national Indoors recently. Below is a video of the U18 team who picked up a gold in Athlone. Incredible performance. The U17s got a bronze on the day too. Check our socials for more.

Bohermeen Half Marathon 2022

The annual Bohermeen A.C. Half Marathon took place on Sunday, 13 March 2022 at 11am. Among the 1400 participants were 30 from Blackrock A.C. We had some fabulous runs on the day on a tricky hilly course with a strong wind on parts of the route. A number of people got their best ever times with the results listed below.

There were no finish line potatoes this year but the banter and craic before and after made for an enjoyable day for everyone even though some members’ vehicles had to be towed from the muddy field by a tractor! The ladies team came 14th overall and the Men’s team were also 14th in one of the most competitive half marathon races for a number of years. Well done everyone.
