Blackrock A.C. members are still on a runners high after their fantastic racing at the Mondello Park Half and Full Marathon on Friday, 30th July 2021. Well done again to everyone who participated and in particular to Ted who came 3rd overall in the half in just over 1:20, to James Dowling on his fastest HM time for several years, to Imelda for her first ever half and to Gerry for yet another full marathon in the bag in 3:49, despite running in complete darkness towards the end!
We are also congratulating Ted Burke for completing the Great Western Greenway (in torrential rain!) as well as 8 laps of Ireland’s most westerly Parkrun in Erris, covering 43.3km and 45.25km respectively over two days.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Virtual runs this week with 27 participants with personal best’s by Imelda, Carmel, Claire and Mairead. Super running everyone. If there are any errors please let Gerry know. Week 5 or other results can be submitted any time HERE.
Return of the Junior Parkrun
Also some great news for parents with Junior Parkrun set to return in Ireland from 15th Aug. Sounds like the full 5k parkrun may return once the government lifts restrictions for outdoor events beyond the current maximum of 500 – let’s hope that’s not too far away!
NEW DATE: Volunteers wanted for charity event
As a reminder, this is part of a ‘Reverse Running’ record attempt a fundraiser for Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth disability charity. Michael Ferndale, who is taking on the challenge, will be running a marathon distance backwards in Phoenix Park that day and is looking for runners to accompany him for part of the journey (but they’d be running forwards!). The job of the runners will be to make sure the group doesn’t don’t run into any obstacles (or deer) along the way. They’re looking for a group of runners willing to do a leg of 10k, or longer, at a steady pace of 7-10min per km.
