What can one say? We wish for the plush surroundings of Athlone’s superb new indoor facility but Dublin’s Juvenile athletes make do with the very changeable weather at this time of the year and then………….we get snow !! In conditions more suited to armchair viewing the athletes of BAC put on some dazzling performances as those who braved the cold snap were treated to some fine running and exciting finishes.
The girl’s squads were in great from the start with three Dublin titles and two runners up places but spare a thought for the boy’s squads who were very unfortunate not to register a top 3…….
Report as follows (see photo gallery in main report):
Under 10’s: Well done to our A squad who won a fine race with a whirlwind final leg from Isabel O’Brien. The squad was Isabel Lynch, Sarah O’Brien, Orla Byrne and Isabel O’Brien. Well done to the girls on getting us off to a flying start.
In the boys U 10, all three squads made the final and we were on the road to victory until an unfortunate mix up on the last changeover cost us dearly. Unlucky lads but it should not take away from a fantastic achievement in getting all three boy’s teams to the final.
Under 11’s: Our girl’s teams 1 & 2 made the final and we had a fantastic victory from Orla O’Shea, Laura Gallagher, Isabel O’Brien and Emma O’Brien.
The boys U 11 team deserve great credit for making the final. Well done lads..
Under 12’s: Once again both our Girl’s teams made the final and we were victorious against very strong opposition from the squad of Aoife Linnane, Ellen Cheung, Laura Gallagher, Kristina O’Connor and Emma O’Brien. Well done girls.
The boys U 12 squad who only came together at the last minute deserve great credit for reaching the final.
Under 13’s: Our girls B team were unlucky not to qualify and our A team were in fine form in securing a silver medal from Lucy Lynch, Sarah O’Dea, Sinead O’Shea and Sarah Healy. Well done girls.
The boys squad ran a fine race in the finals but finised in 5th place behind some very strong opposition.
Under 14’s: Both our girls team’s ran very well over this longer distance (4 x 200) with the team of Robyn O’Brien, Sarah Healy, Sarah O’Dea and Natasha Twomey narrowly losing out on a gold medal in a nail biting finish.
The boys team were also in fine form in their heats but were pipped on the line for 3rd place in the finals.
The club would like to thank all those who were involved in managing the teams earlier today. We would also like to thank the athletes and parents for their tremendous effort and support in the difficult conditions.
