Top class display as Sarah Healy clinches All Ireland secondary schools title ( and AAI report)

Sarah Healy produced a “Grade A” performance to win the Aviva Minor Schools title earlier today at CIT. It was another fantastic day for our club athletes as they did their schools proud on the national stage.

On what was an historic day for Irish Sport, rugby supporters bid farewell to their most famous son at the Aviva Stadium whilst earlier in CIT, Siofra Cleirigh Buttner (Colaiste Iosagain & DSD) won an incredible sixth Aviva All Ireland Schools title by clinching the senior race. In the middle of all of this Sarah Healy (Holy Child Killiney) was creating her own piece of history with a convincing 21 second triumph in the Aviva Girls Minor race. Sarah made the break very early on and her margin of victory demonstrates her undoubted ability on the national stage. Her win is part of a fantastic treble over the last few months which started in Santry last November with the U14 Club title followed by the U13 Club title in Waterford in December. There is no doubt that she will continue to set the very high standards that has seen her take five All Ireland titles in the last three years. Congratulations to you from all at Blackrock AC.

Her club mate Natasha Twomey (Mount Anville) was well up the pecking order throughout the race and finished in an excellent sixth place with Anna Daly (Holy Child) once again producing a great result to finish in 16th position.
There was even better news when Natasha was joined by fellow Mount Anville/ Blackrock athletes Julie Ringrose, Jennifer O’Brien and Isabelle McCarthy in securing the top Team prize. Well done girls. Sarah and Anna were joined by Emma Patterson in the team event where they narrowly missed out on the bronze medal by 1 point.

Padraig Purcell (Col Eoin) has had a very impressive first year in Athletics and signed off the Cross Country season with a strong 5th place finish in the boys Minor race. Col Eoin finished in 4th place in the Team event. Well done Padraig.

Mark Dignam (Blackrock College) finished just outside the Top 50 in the boys Intermediate 5000m with his team finishing in 5th position in the team event.
