It was a tough day for our athletes at the All Ireland Uneven Nationals in Dundalk yesterday. Once again the competition was of a very high calibre. We had athletes competing in the U11 & U13 age groups.
First up was Holly O’Brien in the U11 girls and the Boys U11 squad: Holly had a great run coming 53rd overall; all the more so as she was running up an age. She was very unlucky not to be in the running for one of the Dublin County medals as that team placed 2nd overall. The boys team had a bit of bad luck losing Jack Fairmaner to illness and Daniel Schwer to a fall after he had made a tremendous start to the race. Both were badly missed but the team managed a 16th placing for Sean O’Riagain, Paul Sweeney, Luke Monaghan and David McMahon ( also running up a year). Sean also did well as part of the Dublin County team (2nd) and Provincial team (3rd).
The Girls U13 squad was minus Lucy Schwer through injury but the team of Ciara Dunne (56th), Simone Towns, Isabel O’Brien and Hannah O’Brien all battled bravely. Congrats to Ciara who was part of the Dublin County & Provincial teams that picked up top 3 finishes.
The Boys U13 squad was minus Doug Walshe through injury but the team of James O’Brien (34th), Robert O’Brien, Patrick O’Donnell, Joe Sweeney & Harry Casey all ran well against very string competition in this age group.
It’s been a long season for our younger teams and they deserve a well earned rest before they switch to the Dublin Indoors in February 2017.
A special mention to our training partner, Rosin Tracey (Ashford AC), who finished 4th in the U15 girls race.
