15 year old AmyRose Farrell was part of a very successful Irish squad at the Celtic Games in Edinburgh yesterday. The Celtic Games were the curtain raiser to the Great Run Edinburgh XC Series and in keeping with the the traditional games format, several age groups normally compete in the same race. In AmyRose’s case she was representing the Irish U17 squad who were also competing against the Irish U20 squad along with similar age profile squads from Scotland, Wales, and Ulster plus Elite U20 Invitational teams from GBR, Europe and USA.
For those who saw the race series on TV, the Holyrood Course is a difficult test at the best of times and with weather conditions deteriorating throughout the day it made for a stern test. AmyRose finished in 21st place and in doing so was the second Irish athlete home overall (across U17 & U20 age groups). A fantastic achievement when you consider that she has four more years in this race category and whilst she was a little disappointed not to get in the individual U17 top 3 (narrowly missing out and finishing in 4th place), she helped the Irish team to a silver medal in the team event. Her performance on the day also saw her finish ahead of some very strong athletes from the home nations, Europe and the US. It was another milestone for her in what has been a hectic few months.
The Irish teams had success right across the board and a full race report is here
Congrats to AmyRose on her third International appearance from us all.
