The Bohermeen Half Marathon is a firm favourite among Blackrock A.C. members. Traditionally, our members arrange pick up points around Blackrock, Stillorgan, Deansgrange, Monkstown, Dun Laoghaire, Sandyford and beyond. From there they share the journey across the M50 and up the M3, sorting the pins for their race numbers as they go. Soon after leaving the M3, you come to Bohermeen and realise it’s not far to go. The event is well-staffed and there are always plenty of stewards to get you parked. Shuttle buses bring you close to the starting area if you don’t want to jog or walk there.
The half marathon itself is two laps, the first around 11.8km, with the remainder made up in the second lap. In previous years the 10k formed one lap as part of the event. The soup, sandwiches, goody bag and of course the great tech top and medals make it a great day out and well worth the visit. Who’d have thought that the Bohermeen 2020 Half Marathon, which many Blackrock A.C. members attended, would be the last physical race outing we would have for at least another year?
This year Bohermeen went virtual with the usual half marathon distance as well as 5k and 10k all being covered.
Bohermeen Virtual Weather
Adverse weather was a usual feature from the past few years. Having had pelting hail just before 2019, heavy rain in 2020, this year it was the strong wind the runners had to contend with. Luckily participants could complete their distance at any point over the course of 6th to 14th March, the weather being considerably milder for those who did theirs earlier in the week.
