Congratulations to Sarah Healy (Holy Child Killiney) on yet another individual schools title, this time taking the honors over the Mile in the girls U16. Fresh from a superb run in Belfast last weekend, with a PB 4.32 over 1500m, Sarah was always in control of yesterday’s proceedings, easing to victory with a strong second half of the race. Well done to Sarah on a great week. Her run of 4 min 32 sec was also 2 seconds inside the EYOF qualifying time. Unfortunately, she is outside the current rigid European Athletic qualifying criteria (she is too young this year!!) but a superb run.
Emma O’Brien (Mt Anville) was narrowly pipped in to second place in a very fast Minor girls 80m whilst Ellen Cheung (Mt Anville) was in the hunt all the way down the stretch in the minor girls 500m before finishing 3rd in a very tight encounter. Both girls were also part of the victorious Mt Anville Minor girls 4 x 100m relay team. Well done to both athletes.
Beth Sweeney (Sion Hill) finished 4th in the Junior Girls Long Jump whilst Kristina O’Connor was 5th in the Junior girls 200m. Sinead O’Shea ran the anchor leg for Muckross College in the Junior Girls 4 x 100m with Anna Dignam (Mt Anville) running a very fast second leg as part of their 4 x 300m relay team that took bronze in the U16 event. Sarah Healy was also part of the HCK 4 x 300m relay team that narrowly missed out on a top 3 finish.
Pappy Tucker (St Michaels) was in “fast company” in the Junior Boys 800m race but ran very close to his season best and then followed that up with a bronze as part of the St Michaels relay team. Oisin Kelly ran a fine race in the Inter Boys Steeplechase, whilst Will Hickey (St Michaels) performed equally as well in the Boys Junior Hammer competition.
