Blackrock A.C. Men (and others!)
The Blackrock A.C. “Men’s” section is intended for all adult runners – regardless of gender – who have some existing running experience. We cater to various running abilities up to and including elite level; as a rule of thumb, most of our group are able to run at least 10k. We have three training sessions per week; a Tuesday evening run from our Carysfort Park clubhouse (mix of tempo, hill repeats or intervals), a Wednesday evening track run at UCD (intervals) and a Sunday morning long run (c. 5min/km pace) from our Carysfort Park clubhouse.
We have a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at our sessions, with the aim that everyone enjoys it, but also has an opportunity to push themselves and help achieve their running goals. Our Tuesday and Wednesday sessions can incorporate a broad range of paces as we run in repeated loops, while our Sunday long run is aimed for those who can do a long run at c. 5min/km – but our Fit4Life group also has long runs at other paces and many of our members mix and match whether they run with this group or Fit4Life from one week to the next!
At our Tuesday training, we do some form of intervals, speed work, hill reps or other workouts. Many of our members much prefer to do such a session as a group, not just for the social aspect but also for motivation! The vast majority of these sessions are done in a park or a short circuit such that runners of various speeds can train together while also remaining in one group.
Our Wednesday track session was newly incorporated in late 2022 with the opening of the new high quality running track at UCD. BAC has the track exclusively for two hours, the first hour for our junior/juveniles and the second hour (8-9pm) for adult members. We do some form of intervals and speedwork at this session,
Our Sunday long run is normally done on a coastal route around Dublin bay, usually at about 5 minutes/km pace and typically 15k – with options for shorter or longer routes as we see fit (for example, we often increase the distance in the run-up to the Dublin City Marathon which is one of our biggest target events each year).
The BAC “Men’s” section is highly active participants in road, track, cross-country and trail runs of various distances, mostly in/around Dublin but occasionally further afield; we target a number of particular races every year together with the Women’s and Fit4Life sections to race as a group, as well as hosting several of our own in-house events including an annual club 5k race each spring in Blackrock Park. Many of our members are also enthusiastic participants and volunteers at parkrun on Saturday mornings, especially those local to us such as Cabinteely, Poolbeg, Shanganagh and Marlay.
