Blackrock A.C. Women

Blackrock A.C. Women’s section caters for all adult runners who have some running experience, i.e., all running abilities and ages! Most of our group are able to run at least 5K. We run together four times a week, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, meeting at 6.30pm at the U.C.D. grounds, Belfield and Sunday mornings (long run), again meeting at Belfield at 10am.  For further information about these sessions contact Sinéad Howard, email: Sinead.howard@gmail.com.

We train on Saturday mornings at Carysfort Park under the guidance of Patricia Craddock-Smith and Mary Butler. The training session commences at 10am and is an hour in duration. The training sessions take place in a relaxed, encouraging and friendly atmosphere at our training and running sessions, where everyone is encouraged to push themselves to meet their running goals and to enjoy the sessions.

At our Saturday morning training sessions, we do different types of intervals and speedwork including pyramids, running set distances and hill intervals.  Each participant is paired with an individual of similar running ability in these sessions while running within the group setting.

Our Sunday morning long run is normally done at Belfield, although sometimes we go further afield depending on the distance.  The long runs vary in length from 7k to 14k depending if members are training for upcoming races.

Most of the women enjoy competing or participating in races and parkruns throughout the year. Their focus is mainly on cross-country and road races. The most popular race events include the Dublin Masters Cross Country, Raheny 5-mile road race, Liberties 4-mile race, Women’s Mini Marathon, Meet & Train Winter and Summer League, Achill 10k/half marathon and the Dublin Race series including the Dublin City Marathon.

The social side of the Women’s section includes the women meeting twice a year for a meal, the option for a weekend away incorporating a race, Club’s Table Quiz and the Rory Byrne Run to the Forty Foot and back after Christmas. The women often meet for a social coffee and chat after the weekend training sessions too.

Some of our senior and master women meet for a road run on Saturday mornings under the guidance of Michelle Tracey.  Meeting times can vary.  Currently, the women run between 6-8 miles. For further information contact: Michelle Tracey, email: chelletracey@gmail.com
