Code of Conduct: Parents & Guardians
Parents and guardians are the backbone of Blackrock A.C. Your support helps us provide a safe, fun, and competitive environment where the spirit of fair play thrives.
1. Supervision & Safety
At Blackrock A.C., we share the responsibility of safety with you.
-
Under 10s: A parent, guardian, or responsible adult must remain at training or competitions at all times.
-
Ages 10+: Parents must assess if their child is comfortable in an unenclosed public space (like Carysfort Park). If you have concerns about their safety or independence, you must remain present.
-
Special Support: If your child has medical, psychological, or emotional needs requiring extra support, a responsible adult must be present to assist them.
-
Drop-off & Collection: Always drop off and collect your child within the training grounds. Please be punctual to ensure coaches are not delayed after sessions.
2. The Parents’ Code
Always:
-
Lead by Example: Be a positive role model. Applaud good performances from all athletes, not just your own.
-
Respect Officials: Publicly accept officials’ judgements and discourage any arguing with volunteers or coaches.
-
Promote Wellbeing: Focus on your child’s effort and performance rather than just the result.
-
Stay Updated: Ensure membership is renewed annually (Jan–Dec) and keep the club informed of any medical issues or changes in contact details.
-
Label Gear: Ensure all kit has name tags and is taken home after training.
Never:
-
Force a child to participate if they are unwell or injured.
-
Punish or belittle a child for a “poor” performance.
-
Behave in a way that brings the reputation of Blackrock A.C. into disrepute.
-
Use your child’s participation to meet your own aspirations for success.
3. Volunteering
As a volunteer-led club, we thrive when parents get involved. We ask that parents:
-
Volunteer at least once per year at a competition where their child is competing.
-
Consider assisting with coaching, officiating, or event management.
4. Your Rights
As a parent at Blackrock A.C., you have the right to:
-
Know that your child is safe while training and competing.
-
Be informed immediately if your child is injured or if issues arise.
-
Make a formal complaint if you believe your child’s safety or wellbeing is compromised.
